3 speed auto goimg need help with t56 swap
i am currently looking to swap my trany i have a three speed auto its starting to go and want a manual. so i figured a t-56 would be cheaper in the long run considering im going to swap it out in the future. im just waiting on the funds right now and the go ahead with my uncle he has done projects like this all his life so he will be able to help. but if i could get as much information as i could on what i need and im not cheaping out on anything either so dont be afraid to say prices. i have an 82 trans am with the 305 any aqnd all help will be apritiated

Everything you need to know, and a bunch of stuff you haven't thought of yet besides, is covered in the sticky at the top of the page, in the post on the FAQ board, and innumerable other posts that are already here. Asking somebody to re-type all that stuff all over again, is not real productive.
The ONLY detail that will be at all different in your case from any of the other dozens of times this has been covered, is that your car lacks one set of holes for crossmember bolts. You'll probably need to get some measurements somehow (like finding a newer car in the junkyard or something), take out your seats and peel back the carpet, take about a 1½: hole saw to the floor, and tack in a couple of nuts or something, inside the "frame", to be able to run those bolts into.
You can see the 3 holes in this pic, near where those SFCs meet the "frame". The front 2 on each side are in your car, but not the rear one. You will beed that, as the T-56 crossmember is actually even farther back than that, and needs the farthest rear location badly.
