lost all my tranny fluid but cant see where it leaked out at?

thursday i removed my 2.8 engine from my car, after i jacked up the transmission and got the engine out i noticed ALL my tranny fluid under my car, as soon as i saw it i climbed under the car thinking i punctured my pan but i didnt and i cant see where its leaking and it looks like its coming out of the rear of the tranny. the only thing i can think of is that when i jacked up my tranny it tipped my tail shaft back and all the fluid seeped out, possible?

of course it leaked out of the tail shaft. That is why you either

A: drain the tranny fluid

B: buy one of these

the slip yoke of the drive line acts as a plug that is sealed by the rubber lip seal of the tailhousing.

How much did you jack it up? The angle might have been so extreme that the diveshaft yoke slipped out of the tail housing just enough to let fluid out.

Other possibilities are that you broke the transmission cooling lines when jacking it up, the dipstick tube seal pulled out, or the detent cable seal contacted the top of the tunnel and broke. I can't really think of any other places the fluid could have escaped.

Re: lost all my tranny fluid but cant see where it leaked out at?

it was probably the angle of the driveline just enough to let the fluid leak out

Don't worry about it. Probably lost through the tail end. When you get everything put back together just fill er up again and see if she'll hold fluid.

Use Dex IV. Dex II has been surpassed by Dex III which has been surpassed by Dex IV. I don't even think Dex II and III formulations are regulated by GM any more.

Lol at the corny bleeding joke! I know what you mean, my car 'bled' the same way during an engine swap. Here are a few pictures.
