T5 output shaft play
I have the tailshaft off my 89 WC T5 to change the speedo gears. If I grab the shaft and move it side to side there is quite a bit of play. Is this normal? Id have to guess its about 1/8" all the way around (moving it side to side, up and down)

There's a bushing in the tailshaft housing that's pretty easy to change out since you have it apart anyway. I "think" it's called a yoke suport bushing... I think what really matters is what kind of play do you have with the front driveshaft yoke installed on the splines?

It is normal.
There's really nothing keeping that from happening, except the extension housing bushing which supports the drive shaft yoke, which in turn supports the mainshaft. Take away those 2 supports, and there's nothing there to keep it from wobbling any more.
