On a 700r4 how the hell do you disconnect the shift cable from the shifter? My oh so awesome haynes has no info on it, and its hard to see how the cable is actually attached because theres stuff in the way.

Disconnect the cable from teh shifter inside the car? Are you trying to change the cable? to remove it? The end of the cable connects to a pin sticking out on the shifter assembly. thier is a clip that pushes thru and holds it from coming off. now the shifter also clips into the shifter bracket. To get that out you squeeze the sides (they are plastic) and it will pull out.

I got it off that day actually, bit the bullet and pried it off the pin with a screw driver after looking at it a while and deciding that it just clipped onto the pin, now I just have to get ahold of a new rotary tool to cut a plate to mount the shifter to...though I wonder if there is an easier way..
