Re: T5 won't go in gear
A T5 will not last behind even a punny 305 if the person driving can't drive a stick. While guys with built 400s who can drive have no problem.
Im betting the guy is a knuckle head and thrashed the trans.

Re: T5 won't go in gear
official stance was the 350 could not pass downshift EPA rules and was not used in mass production. [strength of trans was not it, why Ford still used it. GM don't often sell what isn't 50 state legal.]
Get a WC T5 trans, or even better a Gforce case and upgraded guts.
quick search will bring up all sort of stuff on the Gforce parts here.

Andrew:
Go back and check your work.

That's the cause of your problem about 95% of the time. The other 5%, it's something else that was assembled wrong, so even if it's not this, in checking for it, you'll probably find it.

Re: T5 won't go in gear
i bought my firebird with the same problem its a 350 with t5 and would not go into gear.
I had the mechanic run through everything and there were 3 problems:
-Hydraulic system not holding pressure in slave cylinder.
-Clutch fork installed incorrectly as posted above by sofakingdom.
-Also not enough shims against the flywheel after the previous owner had resurfaced the flywheel
cost about 500 in parts and labor to put right but i have a brand new hydraulic system and brand new clutch.

Re: T5 won't go in gear
i live down by miamitown and cleves
I have to admit, I'm not real experienced with clutches, I've only done maybe 50 or 60 of em over the last 35-40 years or so; but I have NEVER in all my days had to install a shim to fix this problem, or even ever come across a car that had one. So while that may well be true, I'd save it as a last resort, after all else was found to be PERFECT and there are still issues.
Likewise, I've NEVER put a new clutch in where there was a formerly working hyd system, and found that there was suddenly a problem with the hyd system. If it worked before, it'll work again. Again, not saying that it can't be; just, it's not bloody likely that it was working PERFECT with the old clutch and just up and failed out of the clear blue at the same instant that you put in a new clutch. Eh??
