I had alloy from the board here do my T56 tail-housing modification to use my cable drive for the speedo.

I just wanted to give him some credit on the job well done and promptness of the turn around.

Why not just order the retrofit version of the T56 that Tremec intends for our cars? It comes with the speedometer gears.

 

BEcause it costs about 4 times as much as a junkyard LT1 one.

And STILL isn't a bolt-in.

 

The 2.97 geared version is weaker than the 2.66 version.
The driveshaft needs shortened.
It has less overdrive (a major T56 advantage over the T5 is the wider overall ratio spread; the aftermarket version lacks this.)
Due to the pre-T56 bellhousing + adapter plate putting more length up front, it is harder to fit in earlier chassis cars (not third-gens) and weighs more.

 

And of course the most obvious...you already own a T56.
