does a stall torque converter slam when you nail the throttle? i have a 2400-2600 stall mated to a 700r4 and when i nailed it it hit hard. iv never driven a car with a stall so i dont know if this is normal.

 

All converters stall including a factory one. Below the stall speed, the converter just slips. A higher stall converter just allows the engine to quickly get into it's powerband when you "nail it hard" for better performance. Too high a stall speed can be just as bad as too low.

Slam as in a bang like a broken trans mount or slam like rev then spin the tires?

 

more like a bang. i think i'll put it up on jacks and check it out tonight. i just got this care running and maybe i missed a bolt or something.

 

deff check the trans mount. i had the same problem it was the tranny lifting up and hitting the trans tunnel. also great looking car saw it on craigslist the other day. wanna paint mine? lol

i live in portland down my lansing. i hear you about not getting what you have into it to build a car right it takes a lot of money and people dont understand that lol. we'll have to meet up when i get my turbo 400 figured out might just swap in a 5 speed for fun since if bought a full drag car now and yes its a third gen lol. maybe we'll do something with paint this winter if your serious

A built trans with a firm kit, will kick like a muel when it shifts at or above stall speed.

I become weightless for a sec when mine hits on WOT shift, as the car lurches forward you seem to float in the seat for a sec.

 

thanks gumpy. ya i got under there and tighten up a few bolts there were a little loose and its doesn't do it as much. i think it was a combination of both. when this car launches it likes to let me know lol
