T5 Camaro/Firebird Pro 5.0 angle
Hey guys, just got to install my pro 5.0 shifter yesterday and it feels great, but during the install I had to change a few things and now I am wondering if I got it wrong.
I installed the shifter with the lettering (fat side of the plate) facing towards the front of the car... But in doing so I had to switch the shifter stick over from the left side of the shifter to the right. it fits OK in the console but it looks like it is in 1st gear (in comparison to the old shifter) when it is in neutral and is close to hitting the side of the console in first and looks strange, but shifts fine. Is this a common problem? Have others bent the shifter stick to make it more centered? Searched and couldn't find an answer...

My T56 Pro 5.0 leans toward the driver. I would think that's probably the intended orientation.

I just looked closer at your picture... I'd leave it the way it is. It looks about right to me.

Re: T5 Camaro/Firebird Pro 5.0 angle
Thanks guys... Yeah the T56 Pro 5.0 is different because the way the T5 bellhousing is placed the whole trans leans towards the driver whilst the T56 is straight up and down. I placed the center console over the shifter and as I said, I think the shifter stick has to be bent backwards at least 15 degrees. I think they may have installed the wrong part on my shifter as in other pictures it looks like the two bolt holes that hold the stick are placed so that the shifter stick has this angle... I found someone who said they bent it back.
Again this really doesn't affect functionality but (you can't tell in the pic) I have a rather nice interior and just did over my entire car, so I'd like to have it looking its best and more centered like the stock shifter.
I wonder if my new poly motor mounts/trans mount are making the angle slightly different.

Re: T5 Camaro/Firebird Pro 5.0 angle
i realize this is an old thread, and i apologize for resurrecting it, but i would just like to offer my two cents here...
The transmission is offset towards the driver in these cars, and I think what pro 5.0 was trying to do was put the shaft on the passenger side of the shifter to offset for this angle and make the shifter set straight up with no angle. I could possibly be wrong, but that's what i'm thinking. That's what i would do if my trans was cocked to one side, compensate for the angle by putting the shifter in the opposite direction with the same angle so it straightened out in the cabin and it didnt look like it was constantly sitting in first gear when in fact it was in neutral.
TL;DR - sorry, old thread. shifter is offset towards passenger to compensate for transmission offset towards driver.
