350 to a T5

Hi, new to the site here, and i have found some good informational articles.

Any way, I am in the process of putting a 350 in my 92' firebird, the problem im having now is that i cant find a flywheel to fit the 350 and still be small enough to fit the bellhousing, i believe i need a 153 tooth to fit the bellhousing, but the hole on the 153 tooth flywheel that i got is to small to fit the crank on my 350, i have talked to a couple people and from what i understand i can not get a flywheel the correct size new. if you know where i can get one i would greatly appreciate it. Oh the 350 is the pre-86' block, dont know if that is relevent but thought i would add that in.

T-5 is to weak for the 350 from my understanding.

Re: 350 to a T5

you can get a 153 tooth wheels for a 1pc or 2pc rear main, its just he matter of getting the right one. IIRC, the 2 piece wheels have a larger hole. maybe you got the wrong one? measure the diameter needed and compare at the parts store.

Not entirely true, I have a mildly built 350 backed by a built T-5 and has held up great so far. I love the combo.

I guess it depends on the tranny being built and how much hp and torque your motors putting out. Learning something new everyday.

I run a non-WC behind a 350/330. The general consensus on TGO is that if the car is driven in a reasonable manner, the T-5 will hold up (mine has for a number of years). If, however, the car is rodded hard (sticky tires, hard shifting, etc.), the trans will be on borrowed time.

Yes they can.

A flywheel for an '85 V8 Firebird works for '85 and older SBC (except 400)
A flywheel for an '86 V8 Firebird works for '86 and up SBC (all)

Either has a 153 tooth ring gear. If it's diameter is larger with 168 teeth, it's not correct for a third-gen Firebird. Period.

Neither is discontinued. Both are available aftermarket. Either can be had for a reasonable price.

Both can be had in lighter weight (16lb) version as well as heavier (25-30lb?) versions.

Your parts store failed you. Take your business elsewhere.
