syncros dont seem to work after fluid change
syncros dont seem to work after fluid change
Hey guys. Thanks in advance for your help. I'be searched and couldn't find any info on this. I recently bought an 88 camaro that I wanted to freshen up the fluids. After changing the trans fluid with dex 3 shifting from 2nd to 3rd has become nearly impossible. Has anyone ever had this occur.

T5 assumed......Do you have enough fluid in it? Did you use Syn ATF, or regular?
Re: syncros dont seem to work after fluid change
Yeah. Wc t5. Changed with regular dex. Should I replace with syn fluid. What would you recommend. Thanks again 4 your help.
Oh yeah. Filled until fluid flowed from fill plug.

Regular Dex is what you need. Try adding some lucas oil stabilizer and/or synchromesh in lieu of a quart or 2 of atf.
Otherwise you have a synchro going south.

Good luck amigo! Nothing worse than doing maintenance on a neglected car only to have it bite you in the ****.

They work or they don't, get ready for a rebuild.
My original trans made noise in 3rd forever, then got stuck in 4th and then 5th one day. And yes it is possiable to take off in 5th gear, its just not easy.
Id go ahead and do it now, before other bad things happen.
Though I also now use straight 30w oil in mine, as recc by JY and GM engineere who does the same.
ATF is to thin, but 80-90 way to thick.
straight 30w is thin enough to flow everywhere right but gives better cushion protection. GM chosing ATF was only a quick easy decision, not 100% correct. Hyrdolic fluid isn't made for that app.

Ok. Sorry its been a while because of lack of time I haven't been able to do anything. Last night I added some Ford friction modifier to the mix. This idea was given to me from a gm master who now does technical training for Lexus. Anyway. I've driven the car 5 times and so far so good. I was told that its only gonna b a band aid. But he says that it normally works for a good while. So I keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again for the help.

Yeah. I didn't believe it would work. But given that it was gonna b a rebuild. I figured it was worth a shot. And now the car shifts through all gears smoothly. Wouldn't believed it. But I just witnessed it. Don't no the long term effects. But as of now it works great.
