drum brakes and low gear?
i just wanna get some opinions a 3.23 or lower gear work good with drum breaks and a stock housing (of course with posi)
cause hawks third gen has em 250 for4 a posi drum setup used
TO me seems risky
see if any one else had this and how well it does
doing a ultimate budget build

Re: drum brakes and low gear?
You're starting out with (probably) a 2.73 now.
??
How so?
Does what???
Sounds like a fairly common stock setup; my little bro's 84 Z28 with the weenie LG4 had that. Except I'm pretty sure his didn't have posi, not that having it or not makes much difference about "work good" or "risk" or "how well it does". If it's one of those (POS Auburn), don't expect much out of it.
Doesn't sound like the best possible use for $250 if $$$ are scarce, unless your current one is tore up or something. If it was me I'd hold out for a 90-up core with discs.

one qeustion i know about rear ends enough never dealt with them but if i get a used housing with posi and a 3.73 gear with 100k miles on em would it be worth it or would it just be a waste of time?

Re: drum brakes and low gear?
I'd buy it but:
I'd use a torque wrench to see if the posi holds. I forget the spec, but it is measurable; if the posi breaks friction below a certain lb-ft level, it's likely bad.
Some cars are run on the highway which won't wear out a posi as quick as aggressive auto-x type driving.
Used parts are a crapshoot. Sometimes you save, sometimes you don't. The more valuable your time is, the more new parts make sense.
