First Uh-oh, then Oopsie, Now Pissed >_<
bare with me here,..Ok here goes, recently i just got my engine in my car. Motor built buy me, and tranny i baught from a shop that had it forsale. supposedly had just been refurbrished. so i install motor and tranny, i take it for a drive. all good no problems. after 3 days the tranny started to "whine" in every gear. i take it to a shop and apparently the grease had ran out the tail. well shop said ok they will replace seal and fill me up with grease. ok, 4 months now down the road.
just got the car legalized, filled up my tank and took off and gears makin noise again...so i get home and check it out. drain my fluid and it was MILKY brown like it was half water and half grease? so i drain it all on out. i did some research and found:
MY tranny is a t5 Non world class. from a 1986. recommended fluid was 90w gear oil. i read up some more and researched the idea of ATF in my tranny....hmmmmm after all i read and heard by word thats a good idea! -_-; hmmmmm well guess what....nope.
after i toped it off with ATF and got in the car to test drive.... i start up the engine....i drive the car 20 yards in my driveway and what do i suddenly hear..>? KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!!!
i thought at first it was in my motor...but i have good oil pressure, but dont sound like a scraping deep knock, and another "but" at idle it knocks, if u slowly rev up it stops. i thought maybe something loose... i checked. i rase the car up and start it and while its idleing it sounds like its comeing from inside the bellhousing. if u rev up slowly or rev up full throttle it dont knock.
another test! i start the car, press clutch in and the knock is still there but kinda changes, barely can tell a change but it does....also if u put it n gear and slowly let out on the clutch the knock bogs down and slows down as the car begins to ease roll. hmmmmm
im 90% sure its not my motor, due to my dumb@$$ sell putting ATF into a tranny recommended for gear oil... my thought is maybe thro-out baring going out? or loose? or maybe flex plate or pressure plate loose...? it really sounds somewhere in the bell houseing area... i cant see it being my motor when i can slowly rev up and the knock goes away at about 1500 to 2000k rpms....
im on a low budget really, but gues ill do wat i gota do. if anyone has any ideas as to wat the crap this noise could be please im open to all input. another thought is that i can drive the car just fine with this knock sound... doesnt seem to affect anything as power or torque. car still does burnouts and dounuts and 0 to 60 in its normal 5.0 seconds! lol believe me when i herd the knock i immediatly got ticked off and assumed it was my motor...so i doged the crap out of it!!! said HELL WITH IT BLOW IT UP! .... that didnt work.
gota love frustration. my only true option is: Trailer/Car hauler, Shop, fix, then empty wallit.

They may have used 90w or higher to mask noise.
GM used ATF to improve mileage. A trans. with no issues should be able to run ATF without issue.
Was a pilot bearing or bushing used in the crank?
A NWC T5 is useful and then when it dies, it's time to go WC T5, Richmond, TKO or T56. I'd work on getting your money back so you can move onwards and upwards with the car instead of running worn out parts.

i know im about to have to remove the tranny anyways, if i can find a better upgraded tranny such as WC t5 i will install it, but ones ive found are outragiously priced.
im thinking its my pilot/throout bearing in my tranny that is causing this knock. at idle in neutral i can press in the clutch and it lowers the sound of the knock. i can place the car in gear it still knocks. slowly let out on the clutch and it still knocks. go down the road accelerating, no knocks, untill u press the clutch in to shift. thats same goes for at idle. if i rev up to 2000 rpm the knock is gone. idk, guess gona yank it out and take a looksie on the inside. do a lil operation
