t5 problems
I had an 87 t5 in my iroc and it would only go into 5th gear if you pushed the shifter in let out the cluch 3 to 4 times. Then it would finally hold. So I swapped to an 83 t5 which I had an it now does the same thing. Am I doing something wrong or do I just have bad luck

Re: t5 problems
I figured since the shifter was installed in another car before I got it, it would be all ready to go

Re: t5 problems
Not really.
Try adjusting it.
That's why the adjustments are there in the first place: every one is different. THINK: if they weren't, they would have just made the shifter "perfect", and wouldn't have spent the money to put the adjustments there, eh??

Re: t5 problems
well the 83 also slips out of 1st sometimes. But if the stop on the shifter was too far back wouldnt 3rd gear have a problem also? I havnt had any issue with 3rd

Who knows.
Adjusting it is easier than arguing about it, and more likely to produce results (or to demonstrate that the problem goes deeper).
Any better since you adjusted it?

Re: t5 problems
I took my console all apart and found that there is no shifter stop adjustment. I then looked up the directions to the shifter, no mention of any stop. The paper says its a competition plus hurst shifter. Also I noticed that after shifting to 5th I let out the clutch, there is a "pop" like something let go and now its out of gear

Re: t5 problems
I put the stock shifter back in an the trans is fine. The hurst shifter is too wide right above the ball at the bottom of the shaft, an it hits the inside of the trans

Re: t5 problems
Indeed: my old Comp Plus, that I bought in about 1985, had stop bolts as well. And, fits PERFECT.
Like jmd said, put up some pics and let's see if we can figure out what's going on.
Could be something as simple as something like, somebody took something apart, and put something back together backwards.

Re: t5 problems
The stock shifter is a shaft with a ball on the end, the hurst is triangle shaped with a ball on the end. Well its just too thick in the front so it hits in front of where the ball sets inside the trans. It would not fully go into 1st or 5th gear. The person that sold me the shifter said "I just didnt like it, the pattern is too close for me" That was bulls***. I saw where he tried to grind it off he wasnt doing it in the right spot. It now works perfectly. I was tring to get it together quick i forgot the pics. Hopefully you get the picture from the description. Thanks for all your info
