Re: clunking while shifting?

If the transmission mount is OE rubber, it's not terribly substantial even new, so you might take a peek.

Re: clunking while shifting?

Rear u-joint? Place the car on a lift or securely on jack stands with trans in neutral and the parking brake released. Try rocking the driveshaft back and forth and see if you can feel any play, or recreate the sound. If the noise is not in the driveshaft, it could also be in your rear axle. What weight of gear lube did you use? I know that factory spec is 80-90 GL-5 but with many miles of wear we tend to develop increased clearance in the rear end gears. This can cause noise with the OE recpomended lubricants. That's where a good synthetic 75-140 gear lube comes in. The higher sheer strength of the slightly heavier, synthetic lube will greatly reduce gear contact and the noise.

Re: clunking while shifting?

Yeah, follow my directions above to find the clunk and fix it. Or at least greatly reduce it. If the rear gears are getting real loose, you may just be due for an overhaul.

Re: clunking while shifting?

Might be. I'll do this this weekend. Weird thing is that I just started noticing it and the only thing I haven't done is the ujoint so I'll see what needs to be done
