700r4 rebuild question
I got everything rebuilt and put back together, and the input shaft is fairly easy to turn in both directions with the oil pump not installed. no after installing the oil pump I can only turn the input shaft clockwise and is extremely hard to turn, and I cannot turn it counter-clockwise at all. I've checked the bushing deaths in the oil pump to make sure that they are the same depth all the way around. I tried using all of the different size selective washers that come with the rebuild kit, with no different results. I cannot think of anything it could be except for the bushings but have measure the depth and ID of them several times. Also I removed the band to make sure it wasn't the cause.

Ok I got the input turns normally now but I'm still not sure which set of spacer plate gaskets to use, one set covers up a few of the holes and the other set doesn't .

Re: 700r4 rebuild question
One gasket has a small triangle cut out in it to indicate the valve body to spacer plate gasket and the other has a ( ) cutout in the same spot for the plate to case gasket. Both cutouts are right above the AUX plate. When you figure out which is which, make sure NONE of the passages are blocked off and be sure they don't shift when you install the valve body bolts. The gasket with the v goes on top of the plate against the VB and the ( ) gasket goes between the bottom of the plate and the trans case.

Re: 700r4 rebuild question
I have two sets of gaskets, one set is like you said ( has a triangle and a ( ) cutout) this is the set that covers some of the holes in the spaced plate. The other set has a C and a V cutout and doesn't cover any of the holes. The atsg manual isn't very specific. My trans is an 88 yet the one it says to use in the photo covers some of the holes Last edited by migman; Nov 4, 2011 at 03:16 AM.
