700r4 rebuild ?

the "anti-clunk spring" is what the ATSG manual calls it. the manual just says "remove anti-clunk spring". i fought this thing for 2 hours. is there some secret way or tool to get the thing out? thanks in advance

Once the big snap ring is removed, you will need to hit the output shaft toward the front of the transmission with a "dead blow" hammer. Then everything will come out. It is impossible (and you will ruin the anti clunk spring) to remove it the way you are trying too.

Re: 700r4 rebuild ?

ok thanks for the help. sorry i haven't been on. home on leave so i'm trying to do 1000 things at once. so the rebuild went good. all gears work. driving around town it shifts fine. however, with any kind of throttle the thing revs way up between shifts, like shifting a manual with out letting off the gas. any ideas on how to fix this? help is much appreciated. i did put a b&m shift kit in with the rebuild if that helps at all

Re: 700r4 rebuild ?

it was also shifting way early even when floored. i started playing with the kick down cable. got it shifting when i figure it should at WOT, and it quit reving up between shifts. a few years ago when the edelbrock carb went on it didn't have the attachment for the kickdown cable, so i made one out of wire lol. stupid kid in highschool. anyway, i had to take that off to get the cable disconnected on the transmission. when it went back together i tried to reuse the wire. that didn't work out well so i built something a bit more permanent. probably not the best way of doing things, but it works for now. i think the issue was the tranny thought it was under light throttle so it was trying to shift slowly and soft while the engine was trying to go as fast as possible. so in the brief time between gears the engine could rev freely. don't know if it'll help you, but it worked for me.

Thanks. I'll try adjusting the TV cable per these instructions:
