700r4 problems

Ok guys so here is the deal, i have an 84 z28 that has a 97 Vortec from a tahoe. Its got a mild cam, highrise and a 750 carb. well when i floor the car it wont shift till i let off the gas and jump back in the throttle. Im going to assume the stock trans cant handle the added torque seeing from what iv read on that subject. Anyways am i correct in thinking its time for a rebuild?? Or is there other things that could be the problem? As far as i know this is the original trans with 147,872 miles on it. Thanks

Re: 700r4 problems

Time for a rebuilt mate. That 700R4 can handle the torque just fine. Mine was doing the same thing when I got it (132xxx miles on it at the time). Needed a rebuild. You could try flushing the transmission fluid and replacing the seals but it sound like it needs a rebuild to me. Add a shift kit and Corvette servo while your at it. It'll make a huge difference.
