SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
I need some help......
I have read and re-read the T56 swap threads but am completely confused!!!
I am in the uk so parts are limited here.
I have finally found a T56 gearbox but didnt realise until I get it that it was an LS1 T56 gearbox.
So I have got myself an LS1 T56 from an LS engined F-body.
I have got the flywheel and a good enough to use flywheel, clutch and release bearing setup from the donor car.
I want to put it in an 82 thirdgen car.
I have a rebuilt engine based on a corvette block (GM3970010).
I bought this pre-built so have no idea if it is a 2 piece seal??? (how do i check?)
As far as I have worked out -
The box wont bolt straight up to the SBC - I need some kind of adapter?
Can anyone tell me what parts exactly I need????
I have to order them all from the US so I cant really afford to make any mistakes !!
If you have any links it would be a great help !!!!!!
Sorry if I should have been able to work this out myself but I want to complete the car over christmas so am running out of time
Thanks in advance !

Re: SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
I have an LT1 T56 and need an LS one. I'm in the Netherlands. It's a complete bolt in kit, everything is there.
The one you have isn't the one from an aston martin V12 is it? There was one on ebay.uk and it ended Friday. I considered bidding on it but the seller couldn't give me the input spline count and length. For the rest it was identical to the LS trans up to the mid plate.
2pc seal is easy to spot, if the rear crank flange is a D shape w/ a balance pad its a 2 pc, if it's perfectly round it's 1 pc.

The rear crank flange is an offset pad to balance I guess?
Mine was from an LS1 engined f-body I have been told - not Aston Martin.
How do we go from here then?

Yes, 1pc seal is not 100% internal balance, they use a weighted flywheel/flexplate
Have a pic of yours? Is it complete?

Re: SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
That's an LS unit alright since it has the hydraulic throwout bearing. Any idea on the miles on it? Mines from an 80K Mile 28.Also complete w/ clutch, pressure plate & flywheel, bellhousing, all the bolts, master and slave cyl, slave spacer, torque arm mount (won't need that on the Ls one) and a hurst T shifter, even the reservoir and bracket are there.
Do you have the bolts that bolt the throwout to the mid plate?

I'm just not feeling shipping my tranny out in the hopes of getting anotehr one sent back.

OK, not too bad. So where is half way? i need to come from Rheine Germany (shop is there). My trans also comes w/ a Centerforce Dualfriction clutch. That's a 600+ $ clutch with a lot of life left. Yours has a stock clutch right?

Re: SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
The 3970010 block has the 2 piece rear main seal. The LT1 flywheel will not fit this type of block/crankshaft setup. You will need the conversion flywheel.
Re: SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
Sorry I didn't realise you were in Germany. I thought you were in the Netherlands. So halfway would be Bruges / Ghent type area.
Yes mine has a standard clutch.
Are you able to email me? I can't find an option ??

Re: SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
All you need is a 4+3 clutch from a corvette or a similar flywheel for a 11" clutch. Not a problem at all.

Re: SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
Finally got round to doing mine !
Do you know if i need special bolts to fit the clutch cover?
I ordered some ARP ones but they are not long enough !
Shame I didnt check before taking the auto out.......
Also I totally forgot about the torque arm - any idea for fabrication a mount as I only have a 700r4 mount

Re: SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
You need the correct bolts.
McLeod listed them a while back.
They index the pressure plate to the flywheel with the smooth shoulder area of the bolt.
The torque arm mount from a T5 or T56 F-body will work. But, fabbing one on the crossmember is a better setup.

Re: SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
It's all there, all the bolts and pieces. You should not have to order bolts.
I think I also have a tq arm mount for it. I'll check today, I'm pretty sure I had one.

Re: SBC LS1 T56 HELP IN THE UK !
I found one but I think it's the old one from my T5, I'll have to look in my other shop to see if I left the T56 one there.
