If it really has a hydraulic throw out bearing then its likely an LS1 T56 in which case it will need to be converted for use on a gen 1 SBC. I would suggest finding an LT1 T56 if you have a SBC.

I believe you need an adapter plus a different input shaft. So unless you really want to tear apart the trans, its best just to buy an LT1 T56.

Good deal for what's there, for an LS guy. Sell it and get the LT1 version for yourself. Not worth the conversion. Where are you located?

Re: how much should i pay for a t56?

If you don't mind shortening your driveshaft and having the shifter further back, using your T5 bellhousing and the adapter plate is a valid way to do the LS1 T56 behind your 400. And you could keep your current clutch and flywheel if you're running the 400 / T5 w/ all '91 T5 parts.

At that point, you could sell the Muncie and LS bellhousings, the Howe TO Brg., Wilwood master, pedals and the clutch. You'd still have the above expenses and fabrication ahead of you however. And the LS1 input shaft + adapter + T5 bell will need a different pilot bearing than what you have w/ a T5.

Make double sure:
The adapter plate is drilled for the 17-degree canted bolt pattern (assuming you're running the 91 bellhousing)

If they rebuild it, get some kind of a warranty on it in writing.

If it's what they say it all is, $1500 is quite fair.
