Need help w/ a 9-bolt

Tryin to help a fellow TGO'r needing a 9-bolt drvr axle.
Pics show where I'm at.
Question is, how does the axle come out?
I've tried some minor hammer force with no results,
and I can't see any access for C-clips in the carrier.
Its been rusting for a long time, as shown by having
to torch off the pan-hard mounting, just to get a clear
shot at knocking off the rotor. Need some confirmation
that the BFH will get the axle out, or whatever the
alternative is.

Thanks in advance,
kk

Re: Need help w/ a 9-bolt

The axle is held in by the retainer plate via the bearing assembly thats pressed onto the axle. Sometimes they can be a little hard to remove. A few taps with a hammer should get it out once the plate is loose, but nothing drastic should be needed to remove it.

Took a look at the rear and that thing is munched! Thats probably why its so hard to get it out. Theres likely a bunch of metal and crap in the splines causing it to bind up. Make sure you use a piece of wood to cushion the axle flange so you dont damage it. It should come out if you wack it hard enough.

Re: Need help w/ a 9-bolt

I built a plate for a slide hammer that i bolted to the lug nuts, (you only need a couple of lugs) a few wacks with the slide hammer will pop it out. There are no "c" clips on a 9 bolt. Just the 4 bolts on the retainer plate.
