89 TH700R4 Shift problem
89 TH700R4 Shift problem
On my way to work about 6 miles down the road, tranny slipped out of OD like going into neutral. I pulled over and shifted into park, and sat a minute, then shifted to OD and pulled onto the highway. Tranny would not shift out of 1st gear, no matter if I shifted manually or left it in D or OD. I have had no problems until now. I checked the fluid in N and the level was ok but noticed bubbles at the top of the fluid line and a leak on the cooler return line. The external cooler was warmer than the radiator despite the temp outside was in the low 30's. Could the cooler line leak cause this by allowing air into the tranny? Fluid was good in appearance and did not smell burned. Thanks for your help.

a few bubbles is ok
alot if bad
theres a huge difference
hows the fluid look?
is it bright red? how doe sit look on a clean white cloth or towel?
red red
or a maroon or brown?
doesnt it smell like trans fluid that is still new in the bottle?
how many miles on it?
is the TV cable set correctly?
are you sure about that?
if not then do not drive it any more
set it correctly and for sure
if it is set incorrectly and by too much then it will burn it up

Re: 89 TH700R4 Shift problem
Fluid looked new, smelled new. Was a clear red. Maybe 266,000 miles bought it used last year. had maybe 6-10 small bubbles on the stick. Will check the TV cable today. Thanks.
