What's correct WOT shift RPM stock 350 TPI Car
89 Formula 350 Firebird. When I have gas to the floor WOT what rpm should this car shift? I was told 4800 rpm as it is low rpm torque motor. Can someone verify please. Or what would be recommended part# for a governor for this 700R4?

Wish someone would have replied to this one back when you posted it lol. I just swapped in a slightly older trans in my 91 'bird (86 trans) and now it downshifts into second but drops into 3rd at around 4500. I think it's probably normal, as I always noticed on the old one, it ran into around 5000 but felt like it was losing power there, so this could very well be right. Would love to see a part # also for the correct governor though if it is wrong.

Stock L98s seem to be done at 4800. B&M sells governor recalibration kits so you can start with the common 4200-RPM governors and tweak them up to whatever you like for each shift. Changing axle gearing will change shift RPM unless you change the governor.

The Corvette governor PN#2420117 and the correct one for the car is PN#2420118 but can be only be bought as a reman. GM mech told me this. Unless you are pulling hard all the way to 5K on the tach the stock I am thinking is the best choice as it quits pulling at that rpm anyway. I sold the car a while back. 60k original miles dual cat, super clean.
