I'm looking at buying a brand new, never installed Turbo 350 from a guy in a nearby town. It's still on the pallet with the freight plastic and its from Jasper Transmissons in Tenn. It has a 1500 stall and Borg-Warner shift kit on it. He wants $600 for it. If I get it, it's going in an 89 RS with an average 355. Any thoughts or advice on this? Thanks for the time!

i would see if its the long tailshaft(9 inch) th350 ,cause if its not then you will have to figure out something for a driveshaft.may be able to use an 82-83 200r4 driveshaft if you can find one. you may also need the conversion kit too. 700r4 to th350 kit. think it runs like $100

is this going to be driven on the highway? cause you will be giving up your od. Also the 700r4 has a nice 1st gear (3.06 ratio),you would need a 3.73 rear end ratio with a th350 trans to equal it. Then imagine how high your rpms would be turning on the highway with that 3 speed auto and a 373 rear. Its up to you tho, would be fine for the strip.

Re: Turbo 350 Question
My uncle and grand father are the ones doing the swap. They've been in drag racing and oval racing for atleast 30 years. I brought up the driveshaft issue and they said not to worry that they were going to do some engineering on it. And it'll be highway driven on occasion.

Re: Turbo 350 Question
And my only alternative at the moment, is to rebuild the Turbo 400 that was pulled with the 355. And I figure it'd be close to $600, so the brand new one would have some bonuses.

Re: Turbo 350 Question
Im curious too... They just say they can lengthen and shorten a driveshaft. I guess it's just some of that random knowledge someone picks up making due in small town racing.

u should be ok,i guess. your car already has a 3.42 or 3.23 gear. its just the rpms will be higher on the highway with a 3 spd
