I have a 92 RS Camaro, i bought for a project car, knowing it had some slight issues with the trans.

Issue with the trans..

The shift linkage is WAY off, and i have no idea how to adjust it, but i put the car in overdrive manually from under the car, and still no 3rd or 4th gear.

Here is where i get confused... THE trans dosnt slip... no signs of slipping as far as i can tell.

First gear, will hold STRONG, and will smoke the tires off with ease, it will even do a power brake REAL easy, so 1st dosnt slip..

2nd gear hits strong (like it has a shift kit in it) under normal accelerating.. now when hammerin down on it at WOT it hits WAY HARD, barkes the tires, and gets a little sideways... but after that... it just keeps building RPMS and never shifts....

Put it up on the stands, and checked the shifting again with no pressure on the rear tires... placed it in first gear, and let off the brake, car ideled up to 15 mph and then shifted into 2nd with ease, but never went into 3rd or 4th.. So im stumped.. First and 2nd hit so hard that I just dont see how the 3/4 clutch disks could be shot, and i dont yet want to pull the trans out before chaseing down all the little grimlins it could be..

That and i dont feel like building a 700r4 in 30* weather lol already have to build one for my daily driver (also 92 rs) so 1 less would be nice.

A LOT of times when the 700's go(I'm not a tranny guru, but have had this happen several times, so I'm not exactly what goes inside), but they usually start slipping horribly bad or lose 3rd and 4th.....



That equals a full rebuild

 

I just blew up the one in my daily driver (92 rs) and its sliped for well over 5 months before it got to the point i wouldnt drive it.. and it lost 2nd gear faster then 3-4 so thats just something i was wondering about, first 2 700r4s ive ever had. These things are crazy little things... So many things that could go wrong

 

I have the same prob in my 89 caprice.but i put in a corvette servo nd upgraded the springs.is it possible that i put that servo in backwards nf it wont engage 3rd or 4th?

 

If it shifts from 2nd and acts like it's in neutral, the 3/4 clutch pack is toast. Pretty common. Only thing left is to open it.

 

Nope never leaves 2nd gear... and holds it strong even at wot.

 

I'd say your 3rd and 4th clutch pack is burnt up. Experienced the same thing with mine and just rebuilt it.

 

I would if pro built would send me my stuff... been a month and nothing yet.

 

I paid a guy I knew to do it. $500 for him to tear it apart replace the clutch and anything else that looked bad and throw in a mild shift kit too and he has a transmission washer too so it looks perty. Pretty good deal if ya ask me.
