Re: 700r4 swap question

sorry no-one has responded to your post. I have a similiar question. I have a 86 Camaro 700R4. Wanted to know what other 700R4's I could use for a swap. Good luck getting an answer.

The 700r4 in my 89 is cable driven. 90+ camaros had electronic speedos.

Re: 700r4 swap question

Just swap the speedo assembly over from the old trans. You'll need to swap the speedo gears anyway to keep the speedo accurate.

You can use any 700R4 from an 82-92 F body (or swap the tailshaft housings). Earlier ones (82-84) may require the original converter to be swapped over as well.

Thanks for the reply, Just curious, what makes of cars use the 700R4 (GM). The tail shaft swap would be for the speed O? I would like to get a used 700R4, so I could use d up to 92. My car does have a computer?

Re: 700r4 swap question

Tons of vehicles used the 700R4, most can be swapped into the F Body by swapping the tailshaft (the F Body tailshaft has the fittings for the torque arm). Stick with an F Body one if possible, preferably one of the 'sportier' models as the inards (primarily shift points) will be better. Later models have slight improvements over earlier models. Early (82-84) may have the lower spline count on the input shaft and torque converter selection may be limited. Mid 87-up models have the secondary valve body for improved shifts.

Keep in mind that the 60 degree V6 700R4 will not bolt to a V8.

The tailshaft does not need to be swapped to change speedo gears/sender, just the one bolt that holds this assembly in the tailshaft.
