Aftermarket speedo driven gear shafts
Are all aftermarket speedometer driven gear shafts made plastic, as a single piece unit?
My current driven gear is a plastic gear on a metal shaft, with a plastic housing. My new cable won't spline into the shaft so i started checking to buy a new driven gear. I haven't been able to find one like I've described that's metal, they're all made out of plastic.

Re: Aftermarket speedo driven gear shafts
I haven't shopped for 700 speedo gears in a while but plastic ones can last a pretty healthy amount of time.
The better question is why the new speedo cable won't fit the old gear shaft.
TCI's catalog shows the plastic ones.

Re: Aftermarket speedo driven gear shafts
MY old cable froze up so i got a new unit from car-quest. I've got the trans out the car right now, so i pulled the speedometer gear/carrier unit out. I screwed the cable on to the carrier but they wouldn't mesh. When i spin the gear, the cable won't turn. I figured the inside of the shaft must be worn? What am i missing?

Re: Aftermarket speedo driven gear shafts
Theres a small portion of cable broken off inside the metal shaft. Cant seem to pick it out. Ive tried gluing something to it, but its in there pretty good.
