should i stick with the TH-400

hey guys just a few questions.
first off i have a pontiac 400, the block had 500557 the front was stamped 01197711 XC the number I found on the head was L185 middle exhaust port marked 6X... still haven't decided weather or not i an going to bore it to a 454 or keep it stock.

what transmission should i get ive heard good things about both but still not sold on weather or not to go with th-400 or a turbo 350? or if there would be a better one to go with?

and what about rear end gears, ive been told 4:11 posie. thanks for your time and info.

Re: should i stick with the TH-400

disregard... What kind of HP are you going to push? You can build a TH350 to handle 1000hp but a th400 will offer more beef out of the box... its really a personal choice and $$ factor

Re: should i stick with the TH-400

i havent really decided it would really depend on how much time and money would have to be put in, not soo worried about time just if its going to cost alot i would have to space it out over a few months. i would like to have it done by early summer.
i found the turbo 400 on craigslist for 250 with 79,xxx miles on it out of a 79 suburban, i want to get as much hp as i can but not be as costly

Buy a th350 more with good hard parts and build it... If ur mechanically inclined you can do it urself, just buy a book and a few new tools... It can be built to handle pretty big hp for "cheaper"

I would go with a turbo 350 and 3.5 gears. You will be pushing 3k going down the highway. Or you could get you a 200r4 and build it up and get overdrive. I have always thought turbo 400's were over rated.
