okay so the 700R4 is supposed to have 4 forward gears and one reverse, and i read that 4th gear is overdrive, but i can drive my car in D (not overdrive) and count out 4 gears when i accelerate from 0 to 60, example, in 1st... shift, in 2nd... shift, in 3rd... shift, in 4th, and then it runs out of gears and then i push it into OD and it shifts again and rpms get very low and i can run it flat out to 130 mph in that gear so im assuming this is overdrive. so my question is do i really have 5 gears or am i just an idiot? cause i swear i can count out 5 gears, im not counting the shifts, im counting gears, im just confused can someone explain? maybe its downshifting from 3rd to 2nd and back up again, but it doesnt make sense cause each time it shifts rpms get lower as it should. and im not flooring it when it happens it does it just driving normal all the time.

The extra "gear" you feel is your torque converter locking up.

 

damn that totally makes sense now, thanks a bunch seafarer12 i couldnt figure it out, i forgot these have the damn lock up converters

 

No problem. Some converters lock up harder than others.
