Need help identifying my differential

I recently picked up a posi rear end that was said to come from a 1990 or 1991 Camaro. It has the gov-loc posi and disc brakes that look like they have aluminum calipers. The problem is that the spider gears are all chewed up and I need to decide whether to replace the gears or replace the carrier. I need to find out if this is a series 2 or 3 carrier. This will be going into my 86 Z28 which I believe has a series 2 carrier and an open diff so changing out parts will not help me. Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mike

Re: Need help identifying my differential

third gens had 7.5"/7.65" 10-bolt GM rears or 7.75" 9-bolt Borg Warner rears. 9-bolts never had gov-locks. Just spring-loaded friction cone diffs. So you have a 10-bolt.

Gov-Locks engage harshly and have a bad reputation due to breakage, so don't even chase parts for it; get another carrier for a 10-bolt.
