Looking for 9 Bolt Help/Suggestions

I've done some searching but came up empty...

I have a worn out 3.27 Ratio, 9 bolt in my GTA.
It's one legging it down the strip and hurting my times... (won't even spin them both right outta the waterbox...)
I'm sure that the cones are worn out, but it just doesn't make sense to rebuild these units...

Now I was planning on going with a 9" rear end, but can't afford it right now...
http://www.quickperformance.com/Products/housings.htm

But in the meantime, I've been trying to find a solution... a quick fix if you will...
Can you weld up the center section? or something???

Unfortunately, my GTA doesn't see much street time anymore but I hope to get out to my local track a few times this summer.

Any help is appreciated guys!!!

Re: Looking for 9 Bolt Help/Suggestions

I'm thinking a 28 spline 10bolt built right would be a
good solution-i liked the 9bolt BW and it has some
advantages VS the 10,but after running one for about
a year to find the oil silver with tiny shavings from
failed posi and bad posis in two others i bought,i have
pretty much given up on finding one with a good posi...

Re: Looking for 9 Bolt Help/Suggestions

I didn't wanna spend any $$$ unless it was on the eventual 9" rear end...

I don't see any way of locking the 2 axles together here... https://www.thirdgen.org/bw_9-bolt_cone_repair

Anybody?

What do you think of this???

Can this be done on a 9 Bolt diff?
Of coarse the video has an Open Diff as the example...

Re: Looking for 9 Bolt Help/Suggestions

Welding the diff is going to be temporary at best. I would just throw some new posi cones in it if the carrier isnt damaged. They're $150 a set I think... If you can find a good 10-bolt for $150 or less, do that instead.

Re: Looking for 9 Bolt Help/Suggestions

Yeah, I'm starting to have concerns about my 9 bolt as well. Should I go ahed and get these rebuild parts now? Granted, I don't see the track at all but I do want to make sure the diff sticks around for a while.

Quick question: What fluid goes in this diff? Can I use any "limited slip" synthetic or stick to using the additive with standard diff oil?

Basically, I need to know what to get specifically. I know! Search! On it...

Re: Looking for 9 Bolt Help/Suggestions

If i ever use a 9bolt BW again,i am going to drill+tap
the case for a drain plug or braze one onto the cover
and check the oil for metal particulate often and change
the oil if needed:the iron-on-iron cone posi design can
be expected to produce some metal in the oil,but seems
all the metal floating in the oil aggravates the gaulding
and wear of the posi not to mention damaging the
bearings...

Avoid any limited slip additive. GM went back and forth on it for years. It lubricates posi clutches so they dont wear so much, but I think it just accelerates wear on the 9-bolt.

My 9-bolt carrier is hanging on great, and I had the same fluid in it for a year and a half at least. Drained it to do my gear swap and it still looked fine. So I think it's just years of use or perhaps the posi additive that gets all that metal flake in the oil. I used non posi gear oil.
