compatible t5??
hey guysive been reading up on t5 and t56 swaps. I recently had the tranny in my 91 GTA go out. I know the t5's aren't as reliable as a 56 but at The moment I don't have a grand to drop. I found some t5s on craigslist for pretty cheap. One being out of a 01 mustang, and the other out of a 87 thunderbird/cougar. here's the question. Would I be able to use these if I swap the bellhousing? Also I can get a pretty good discount on a zoom clutch . Also had plans to install a lt1 cam I got for free from a Co worker. Eventually a chip and maybe head work with some work to the intake, and runners. The car already has a full exhaust...how well would you guesstimate it could hold up..driving conservatively with occasional abuse? Any input is appreciated. Thanks! Trae

Re: compatible t5??
No those will not work.
You need one out of a 83-92 F-body V8.
As far as abuse, it's a crap shoot... might last 100,000 miles, might turn to shrapnel first time you drop the clutch. Feeling lucky today?

Re: compatible t5??
As sofakingdom said they will not work. Once you get the bell housing and manage to get it to bolt up you will see that the shifter is at an angle. In addition the tailshafts do not seem to be a direct swap. The clutch splines are also different.
After all this then with abuse it is a question of how long it will last. Might be one time or could be many years. Some have had good luck but many haven't. I know where there is a 3rd gen V8 T5 but opted for the T56 for partly this exact reason.
