700r4 shifting problems, tv is adjusted
ok to start off the car is a 1986 trans am ws6. it had the 305 tpi in it(changed the rear from a 276? to 323 or something. from what i remember it shifted right ( at like 4800) or somethin weak how they shifted at wot.
i swapped out the old 305 tpi and put in a 383 with a holley 670 street avenger carb. engine is all modified.
the 700r4 then just started slipping all over the place to where it wasnt worth driving anymore. (cant remember if it did it as soon as i did the swap or a little after from abuse)
so 2 years later i had my dad rebuild the transmission. he also installed a b&m shift kit. i bought a 2500 stall converter and a tv cable relocation bracket that bolts to the holley carb.
took the car for a ride to work the other day 1st time is been driven in 2 years everything is all done and rebuilt.
1st off at full throttle the car shifts way to early(think it shifted at 3000rpm) and itsnt acting right like i can throw it in manual 1 and it wont downshift till im going like 1-4mph or something.
it also has nearly the same stall speed as stock idk if they sent me the wrong converter or that is tied into this shifting issue.
i was manually shifting the car kinda beating on it. when i got home the car was overheating and my transmission was soo hot.
so i guess my question is what could have caused this shifting issue the tv cable is adjusted right and has that new bracket on it. why did it shift fine when it was a 305 tpi i dont get it and its killin me. what can i change 2 make it shift right or is something wrong? any easy checks i can do to start figuring this out? thanks guys

It sounds like the governor is locking up right! Have you tried playing with the tv cable at different paces? The governor can cause it to shift late or to soon?
