would a 1970 12 bolt (lemans) non posi fit in a 86 firebird? I know its kind of a stupid question :P but please bear with me. Also can I make the non posi into a posi?

Re: 12 bolt question
Width-wise? I dunno. But I do know that it would have to be modified suspension-wise to accommodate the LCA/coil spring setup if your retaining the stock suspension.

Darn. sounds like a pain in the tookus lol. so you suggest a moser unit then? how many spline should I get? I just want to be sure it can handle 50ft'.lbs of torque. I only plan on making up to 450 but the better its rated the safer I feel.

Re: 12 bolt question
if you do a 12 bolt, use the strange one. Mosers is known for torque arm bolt retention issues as well as other mosers related complaints.
30 spline is enough for most people. If you plan to drag race it a lot with sticky tires, go bigger, 33 or 35

Re: 12 bolt question
I'd classify myself as high performance street. not much racing but driving fast and just pleasure cruising, maybe the odd trip to the strip. Is there a website for the strange axles other than the strange engineering page? theirs is confusing.

Re: 12 bolt question
I heard the torque arms and all that are clunky. I want BMR stuff. but honestly which is better? Moser or Strange?

Re: 12 bolt question
Take a look at autoweldchassis.com I have one of there ford 9 rears and there torque arm has to be the strongest in the business. It is made of tubular steel with cross bracing. It bolts to the crossmember they send you with a heim joint and bolts to the top of the rear and also to the bottom of the rear with heim joints (fully adjustable). I have never seen its equal unless on a few all out trailered drag cars.

Re: 12 bolt question
If the length is right, its really not that hard to fab up that rear for our cars. I have basic welding and fab skills and did one for mine and it turned out great. You just need to be creative on the TA mount, that was the hardest part. If you can do it, it cost about 1/3 to half what a strange costs depending on what extras you get. I spent about 900 or so on mine and it is essentially new, gears, axles, bearings and brakes. Bostoncamaro is doing a great write up on the one he is doing in the fabrication section.
