Re: $2000 for a trans rebuild

If they will only warranty it for 30 days and said thats all it will last?

Find another shop...not the cars fault..they all break sooner or later.
Keep looking.

Re: $2000 for a trans rebuild

If all there is is 1st & reverse, pull the governor out. Likely the plastic gear is stripped, easy to replace.

Re: $2000 for a trans rebuild

Can you pull the transmission yourself?

What budget are you looking at?

Is your motor stock?

If you can pull it and put the replacement in yourself, look here

https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/home.php?cat=20

All of these are under $2000 (without shipping) and a lot of members on here have had them last and take a beating.

Re: $2000 for a trans rebuild

Yet, only 2 miles away is another transmission rebuild place, but when you call the guy on the phone is arrogant, totally does not Instill Confidence in the customer while boasting about how their all Pro's & how you'll never find anybody else as good as them, quotes me a rough Estimate of 1,700 bucks for the rebuild but he says I have to bring it in because it could be more and It will take 2 weeks to do. While the other shop in which I know the owner will have it for me in as little as 5 working days & he does exude pride & confidence in his work & reputation. & I have 4 cars that will need a rebuild in the future so I'm taking them to the guy I know will take care of them for me.

Re: $2000 for a trans rebuild

I live in Salt Lake and in our local classifieds I see 700R4's rebuilt all of the time for around $700ish. Not sure why you are being quoted that much with no warranty.

Re: $2000 for a trans rebuild

P.S. the shop from which I know the owner says he gives me 6 months guaranteed, while the other "PRO" gives me 30 days only

Re: $2000 for a trans rebuild

I was quoted $1,400 to $1,800 to have my 700R4 rebuilt and that includes removal and installation along with transportation to the shop which is about 40 miles away. As others have said, I would look for another shop.

Re: $2000 for a trans rebuild

Keep looking! I looked at over 20 shops in the columbus ohio area before i found someone that would do it for $700. Quotes ran as high as $2300! Try out in the country, they might not be advertised as well, but they will usually be a lot cheaper.
