yes. he paid 6 G's for an 86 Caprice. i tried to talk him out of it. now he wants to mildly sup it up (it has a Goodwrench 350 Crate w/ Factory Q-Jet spreadbore.) so, yeah, exhaust work, but i gave him my opinion that his biggest obstacles to any power equalling performance would be weight and traction. i figure he has a 7.5" with two-seventy-something gears and an open diff. if i were hell bent on modding an '86 Caprice, i would want a posi-rear end and some gears.

does anyone know what issues one might find with trying to swap a 3rd or 4th Gen posi rear end into an '86 Land Barge (other than the disc brakes)? is there a coil vs leaf spring issue? an axle length issue? or is it a "same family of axles" situation, making it universal (other than the brakes)?

i figure 3.42 would be an improvement. due to the likely heavy weight of the Caprice, would something steeper (3.73) be a marked advantage over 3.23 or 3.42?

 

LoL that big boat prolly has a different rear diff more like an 8.5 or 12bolt Since its so hvy Id look into the LT1 cop car diff or SS Impala ones If the width is really close Might wanna inspect things closer to see If hes got a 700R4 3.73 gears & a 3200 to 3600 stall will put a big smile on his face & if he can get a wrecked LT1 car cheap swap everything over LT1s can be built to Run Im buildin a 396 LTx stroker for nitrous & itll be right at 600hp @ the crank With all the goodies & supporting mods Hope this helps
