Re: 83 CAMARO CANNOT SHIFT INTO GEAR OR COME OUT OF GEAR

Welcome to the forums.

Around here, we don't use this. Extremely rude, and hard to read, besides. Instead, we use the proper capitalization, as a courtesy to those we are asking for help.

But this being your first post, I'll overlook that temporarily.

Look at your clutch fork while a helper pushes the pedal. If it's moving more than ½" or so, then the Z-bar is OK. (those break ALOT so don't assume anything)

If the clutch fork is moving far enough, it could be the fork itself is broken, the ball stud has backed out, or the clutch is just .... fornicated.

Didn't realize it was rude. Didn't mean to offend you. I type in all caps at work. Thankyou for the suggestions. If the z-bar and fork are in working order then it could be the fork from the inside?

Yeah I used to work in a place like that... I was the Chief Enginner at a network-afffiliate (no, a REAL one, not a Fox) major-market one; for some reason, the Nudes Dept. typed all their stuff like that. The anchors complained constantly as they squinted at that illegible lazy-man's crap on-camera. But it was impossible to change, "we've always done it that way, that's just how we do it here". I fell your pain.

Yes; the fork breaks sometimes where the narrow part meets the wide part, near the throwout brg.

Re: 83 CAMARO CANNOT SHIFT INTO GEAR OR COME OUT OF GEAR

I'm not sure if these cars have a slave cylinder but if they do you might want to check that as well. I had a '94 Ranger and that went bad and when it did changing gears while stopped became a real challenge but when the engine wasn't running there was no problem. Problem is is that with a bad slave cylinder you can depress the clutch all the way (requires a lot of effort to do when this is bad) but it doesn't disengage the clutch 100% so mine was still grabbing the flywheel and would even move the truck on flat roads.
