Engine: stock 305 for now!! to be updated!!
Transmission: th700r4
Axle/Gears: not sure stock for now!!
is trans controled by computer

i have a 1985 z with the carb. and want to elimate the comp is my 700r4 controled by the ecm? i know i have to change the distributer to a vac advance. Is that all i need to change?
also my netural safety switch went out and need to change that, is there a way of getting it out with out removing the whole center counsel or shift mechanism??

Well for the 700r4 you have to put on a switch to control torque converter lock up. Search it and you will find it.

Go to: Painless for the TC lockup. This is the best way to do it.

Another option is to install a 4th gear switch in the trans that will lock up convertor anytime you go into 4th without the need for a manual switch

I personally went with the TCI kit, extremely easy to install.

thanks for all the input!! checked out the tci kit and, looks thats my answer! now i just hope that netural safety switch solves my no start problem!! wen i turn to start position no crank, no click nothing!! all gagues and power acc. come on. i've replaced starter, cables, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, coil, ignition module!! its either that or the ecm. any suggestions??

ECM has no affect on starter; can remove it from the car altogether and engine will still crank over.

Thanks for the info... Got switch put in to day and,.... Yay fired right up!! After soo Long with no start it was great to hear it roar to life!! Man Flowmasters sure make it sound meaner than it Is!! Lol! Now that thats outa the way I can get started on the good stuff

Your call
If you just want the convertor to lock while cruising , install the 4th gear switch in the valvebody and forget about it.
Some run a man switch because they want lockup in lower gears but you have to remember to turn it off
when coming to a stop because as soon as you foot comes off the brake the engine will stall
( the TCC brake switch automatically unlocks the convertor when braking )
