700 r4 TV cable adjustment

I put a reman 700r4 in and it gave me 2 miles of trouble free driving haha. slid another one into it with a new tv cable and the ratchet on the cable is too tight to pull out for adjustment. I've been messing with it using the "one click" method, and aside from getting severely frustrated, I can't seem to dial this tranny in to shift properly. under mild throttle, it shifts high. heavier throttle, and it shifts at slightly less speeds. around what speeds should this tranny be shifting at? the cable bracket that houses the cables was modified slightly, but placement on the intake is pretty close to stock. shouldnt make a difference tho, correct? if i hold the button down slightly and then go wide open throttle, it will set, but it seems like the ratchet is pulled out too far, and doesn't shift properly. will take a week to get another cable, and really don't want any more downtime. if i can dial this in properly, it would be nice. any help is appreciated and sorry for the long winded explanation!

Re: 700 r4 TV cable adjustment

When it should shift depends on a lot of things. Assuming you're doing the cable properly, sometimes the under-tab spring is so stiff that I have had to use large-ish channel-lock pliers and a very small socket to change the adjustment. Start with that, and until you get it close, go in 2-click increments.
