Clutch Replacement 2.8 V6
Clutch Replacement 2.8 V6
Well it seems it's time for a clutch replacement on my 89' Firebird. I had planned to do the work myself as opposed to a shop. But I have to ask, has anyone attempted this job without the use of a lift. I'm sure someone has done it before and I just wanted to hear some of your experiences. You don't have to go into crazy detail or give step by step instructions but I just want to know is it worth attempting without the use of a lift. Thanks.

Done it with and without, prefer to do it without, not really a big task imo.

Re: Clutch Replacement 2.8 V6
I converted my 92 to a 5 speed over the winter and did it all in the garage with jackstands. Works fine. It easier if you get the car up as high as possible to give yourself some room to work. If your up for a good workout you don't even need a jack. The trans is not terribly heavy, but the jack can come in handy to help support things as you wiggle the trans into place.

Well thankfully the Firebird is just my weekend car so I can take my time with this. But from what I've heard from you guys so far it sounds like this is very possible. I guess I'll just have to get a shop manual and get started! Thanks for replying, I'm sure you'll see me post more when I get into the job lol
