this morning the 1990 RS camaro ran fine. left work today the engine rev very high and top speed was 20MPH! now if i punch it the car would get up to 40 MPH put will not shift back to Over drive. tranny fluild looks ok and not low. but funny thing is, when i start my camaro it idles at 1000 rpm's or 1100 or 1200 rpms. now when i start the car up it idles at 2000 rpms. never done this before and today it just started when the tranny would not shift in to over drive like it stays in low gear.

 

Doesn't shift up to any gear (2nd /3rd ) or only won't shift into O/d ?

Presuming your TV cable is adjusted correctly?

the governor that controls shifts may be bad ; the plastic teeth that drive it may be worn / broken or governor is stuck

Governor is under the round metal cover on drv side rear of trans

i guess the cables popped off the throttle body housing...any ony have a picture how they hook back up? lower cable on a big flat thing with a slot in it and a smaller cable with a green piece of plastic on it.the plastic green piece that holds it on the throttle level that plastic broke.

 

Crank the throttle body open.
The one that does the pulling is the throttle.
The one that is pulled is the TV cable, mandatory for proper trans. shifting.
