Driveshaft Length OK???

I have a 1992 camaro RS. Recently replaced the 305 engine with a newer 350 with vortec heads. Also replaced the 700R4 with a rebuilt from Jegs. Had to chamge the transmission tailshaft from the old transmission to the new one to be able to connect the torque arm. The driveshaft yoke looks like it is going into the transmission about an inch less than previously based on the shinny area on the yoke. Is this a problem?

Re: Driveshaft Length OK???

As the rear end articulates while driving, the yoke slides in and out of the trans. So there will ALWAYS be some "shiny" area exposed. If the rear is hanging down now, the max is exposed.

You haven't changed anything that would move anything at all, beyond just the act of disturbing it. It'll be fine.

Re: Driveshaft Length OK???

I'm assuming you've noticed this after installing the driveshaft?

One test you can do. Unbolt the u-joint at the diff. Slide the slip yoke into the transmission as far as it will go then pull it back out 1". That's where it should sit and the driveshaft length should be adjusted to that position.

Not all slip yokes are the same so you may have enough splines on the shaft and inside the yoke to allow more travel.
