PROPSHAFT ISSUE

I wanted to swap propshafts tonight and the second hand one i had picked up doesnt fit !
I thought they were all the same?
My one is originally from a 700r4 car and i thought the new (to me) one was also.
I have a T56 now and my old shaft fits fine but the splined end of the joint is too big.
The splines fit fine but the larger diameter wont fit into the tail of the box.
As they say a picture speaks a 1000 words !

jtust swap out the ends ' and wile you're there replace the u joint as long as the shafts are the same length you should be fine . yoy need to melt out the plestic ring to remove the u joint you'll notice there are no clips.

Re: PROPSHAFT ISSUE

with the large o.d. and 27 spline, I think that's a TH375 slip yoke. (weaker overall parts in a TH400 style case.)

Re: PROPSHAFT ISSUE

I had the larger one rebuilt and rebalanced before the swap.
Didn't realise they were different !!!!
I guess I'll get the gearbox end swapped over.
Hope they can reuse the new joints

Re: PROPSHAFT ISSUE

Are the joints the same?
If so I'll swap it over myself.
Anyone reused a joint before?

Sure you can reuse them. Be careful taking it apart and you should be alright.

Re: PROPSHAFT ISSUE

If there new it will be fine . never re-use an old joint . if you've never done one before it can be tricky. the one you had redone should come rite apart with clips and pressing . the old one will have no clips you need to heat the crap out of it till melted plastic wiggles out of the 1/8 holes in the bearing recievers . only then can you pound the old ones out . carefull not to loose any of the needle bearings when removing the (good joint)

Re: PROPSHAFT ISSUE

Yes, you can re-use u-joints. Assuming they are the same length and bearing up size of course. Unclip them, use a vice or c-clamp to press it apart and back together. Don't force it if it's going to bend a yoke ear. Don't lose bearing needles. If one clip goes on easy and the other barely clips onto the inside of a cup, then it may be shifted to the side, which can cause a balance issue.

propeller shaft is a valid term for a driveline / driveshaft.
