HOW DO I GET THE BEARING CONES OFF OF A 10 BOLT GM CARRIER / PINION ?
THERE IS VERY LITTLE ROOM TO GET A BEARING SPLITTER IN BETWEEN THE CARRIER AND BEARING CONE TO CHANGE IT OUT. IS THERE A TRICK TO THIS ? OR JUST A PAIR OF BIG PRY BARS ?

I CANT MY S-10 CMFI IS DOWN. @#$@#$ I HAVE A PRESS. WILL A REG BEARING SPLITTER WORK ?

If you don't have the correct bearing puller then cut the cage off of the bearing. Then use a MIG welder and run a hot bead around the inner bearing race. The heat from the welder will loosen the bearing and you can pry it off with a pair of pry bars. Protect the gear and other parts from weld splatter. This is just one option. There are several ways to get them off.

i paid $15.oo at a machine shop to have them take the old pinion bearing off, and press the new bearing on. he used a torch to cut the bearing. i dont have a press, so it was worth it to me.

Get a piece of wood and tap the caps off (both KB and carrier).

Cut the cage off with good cutters and use a cutoff wheel at a angle on 2 sides of the bearing race and it will crack and fall right off.
make sure you cover the carrier so junk doesn't get into it.

THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT WILL WORK. A DECENT BEARING SPLITTER KIT IS $500 OUCH.
