nv4500 in a thrid gen?

has anyone ever managed to drop a nv4500/lsx combo into a third-gen? I managed to get one for practically nothing that is in good shape and wanted to know the pros/cons of using it...

an obvious pro AND con is the 1st gear ratio, which is well over 5:1 and coupled with 3.73s would make first gear short and useless... and make second gear similar to 700r4s first gear...

another question I have is where could one get a good clutch for said transmission/engine combo?

I can't speak for an NV4500 but I can tell you the weaker NV3500 is pretty comparable in size to a 4L60E/700R4.

You end up with a wide ratio slow shifting 3 spd with O/d and underdrive
1st gear good if you want to use your car for tractor pulling or rock climbing
Have you considered here the shifter would be?

Same problems as a NV3500 swap, but with the further problem of adding another 100 pounds of iron case. Selling the 4500 would get you halfway to a T56.

Re: nv4500 in a thrid gen?

My problem with all this is the car is in NY, while i'm stationed in CA so i cant do all the mock up stuff on my free time...i'm not sure where the shifter would sit as i havent even seen the tranny at all haha a T56 would be awesome...what's a good price for one?

Where can i get a clutch for this tranny anyways? My cousin might be able to use it in his truck if i were to sell it but he would need a clutch...

nv4500 is a top loader, the stick would end up in your ash tray or thereabouts. ?Kinda sucky, I had been looking for a 2wd nv4500 for my truck and couldn't find a decently priced one. They are perfect for trucks with floor shifters but completely useless for anything else
