Automatic to T5 Manual Swap
hello i have a 92 camaro rs with a 305. it has a 700r4 trans and i have nothing for the swap. i really want a stick shift i know all about the t56 and everything but i dont want to have to deal with the new cross member the pedal differences and modding and also i can get a t5 for a good price. but besides for the trans what is everything else that i need, i cant seem to find a donor car so i was just wondering of a list of parts that i would need. thank you. i couldnt find a thread about this so if there is a existing one a link would be appreciated as well. also if the deal on the t5 falls through what years of the t5 could i use and if any, other vehicles as well where the trans would work. thanks in advanced

You need an F-body V8 T-5, World Class preferably. Mustang T-5's are different, 4th gen V6 T-5s are different, Camaro I4/ v6 T-5's are different, and S10 T-5's are different.

The world class is the stronger of the T-5's... a T-56 is still much stronger though. Regardless, you're going to have to install the hydraulics and do some cutting and wiring so I'd suggest you study and save up, get the knowledge and T-56 parts and eat your Wheaties for a week or two and dive in and put one of those in. My Toyota's transmission has seen better days and I daily drive it; using a worn, weak transmission just takes away some of the fun of the whole thing so IMHO the T-56 would be completely worth everything involved over a T-5- unless you know how it felt when driving before it was pulled or it comes with a guarantee/ warranty. The general consensus is that the T-56 is stronger and less likely to have issues, so the T-5 is a gamble... however if you go through with it and get lucky and score a good one more power to you!
