Car: 1986 Camaro IROC Z28
Engine: 5.0L 305 TPI
TH350 Question

Quick question, if i got a TH350 trans would it slap into place of my 700r4 for my 1986 Camaro. I have heard no and yes. Please provide any info. I thought it would easily fit in.

hello I did that to my 1987 Camaro you have to change the
shifter and the cross member and the drive shaft I don't like it's holding back the
power I am taking it out and putting a 5 speed in it I am hearing it a lot better

lol.. totally knew someone would get to it before I did. I'll take an auto over a manual any day of the week, and I'm no slouch when it comes to shifting a 5 or 6 speed. I HAD a manual in mine, bought a T56, sold it, bought a TH350 and modified it.. best decision ever.

Engine: the bigger the better
Transmission: 700/4L60 in everything
Axle/Gears: wish they were all 4.10's or better

350 is 3" shorter, and has no provisions for the torque arm to mount. There are kits for install, but are a bunch of work.

why would you want to change? 350 has a shallower first gear and no overdrive.....

700's can be made plenty strong. I have built them for 502 engines and supercharged 700 rwhp vehicles.... they drive to the strip with them....
