Leaking bolts at the front oil pump
I' driving a 82 trans am (305 v8) with the th350 trans.
I noticed a leak from the front pump. But before I go to a mecanic there is one thing I'd like to try... As I have understood there is supposed to be a washer at each of the bolts at the front pump. But there are none as far as I can see on my trans.
Questions:
1. what kind of washers do I need? copper?
2. I think i can get out the bolt that is leaking and put a washer on it without dropping the trans. But what will happen if I just unscrew one of these bolts? I there a risk i will mess something up?
3. in case I can't get the bolt out is it any idea to try with RTV-sealant? (unscrew the bolt and apply a coat of rtv under the bolt head.)
Dropping the trans is not an option for me. If that is necessary i will go to a mechanic - so adding these washers is my last try (and hope).
