spider gears
i have a 1992 camaro with a 7.625" 10 bolt axle with 28 spline shafts and an open diff.
additionally i have a gm 7.5" 10 bolt with a posi and 26 spline shafts.
now the question, i know the carriers will swap and i know the shafts will swap, BUT can i take the spider and side gears from the open carrier (28 spline) and put them into the posi carrier (26 spline) so that i can utilize the 28 spline shafts in the posi carrier, or will i need to buy a new posi unit.
thank you.

Re: spider gears
I doubt the spiders are the same between an open and posi diff but they may be. Although normal 28 spline spiders will fit into a 26 spline carrier, the hole that the axle goes through in the case isn't large enough for the 28 spline axles.

Re: spider gears
if you mean the axle housing i am using the housing currently in my camaro that already has the 28 spline shafts, if you mean the differantial carrier im not sure but the 26spline shafts did have some wiggle room when installed in the other housing (not sure how much just an eyeball guess)
i plan on atempting the swap this weekend (i will remove one shaft and test before i remove the carrier) as i already plan on swaping the disc brake setup from the iroc axle onto mine.

Re: spider gears
I once tried pushing the 28-spline shafts into a 26-spline carrier; no go. I would have had to get the carrier machined. Not worth it in that instance.

Re: spider gears
i was refering to taking the 28 spline spider gears themselves out of the open carrier and putting them into the posi carrier, not just the shafts, but thanks
