T5 Spring (pic)

I have the trans installed in the car and then was trying to manually put the shifter block into gear to keep the wheels from moving. When I moved over the shifter block to the side this spring came out from the bottom of the shifter block.
There is no room for me to just put it back in from underneath. How can I get it back in?

You'll have to drive the roll pin out, remove the tailshaft case/ shift block and then put it all back together with the spring and ball in there.
I wrap that with electrical tape during install to keep spring and ball together and inplace.

Also, a ziptie may work.

You are holding the spring, but I don't see the ball. Did you loose it? This can be hard to install, but I can do it without removing the tail housing. You will have to remove the pin and push the shaft all the way forward while pulling the block back to remove it. Then push the shaft all the way forward and work the block back onto the shaft with the spring and ball in place. I've never seen the spring and ball come out like that before.

Re: T5 Spring (pic)

Thankfully I was able to tap the shaft forward a little and then take off the shifter block. Below you can see the ball - that is where it is supposed to be correct? and then the spring goes on top of the ball (while inside the shifter block)?

Are you also saying to add tape to the bottom of ball so the spring and ball won't come out again?

Re: T5 Spring (pic)

If you put tape on it you will have to remove it after you get everything back together. You can't leave the tape on it. I've never used tape or anything to get it back together. I just put the spring and ball on the block and put them in place and work them back onto the shaft.

I still can't figure out how the spring got out. The ball goes into the block and the spring is above the ball. The ball can't come out while the block is on the shaft, so how did the spring get past the ball and come out?

Re: T5 Spring (pic)

Yeah, I use electrical tape. Then when ready I cut the side of it and shift the gears to pop the tape out. I found its easier than fighting that lil booger.
I've done 200 some rebuilds on T5s but most were on fox body stangs.
