ive got a 87 firebird vette rims 4th gen rear axle 3.73 gears stock drive shaft trans engine. trans is a t5 when i go around 75-100 mph i get a strong vribration faster i go the worse it gets. wondering if any has came across this problem only drive train no vibrations in steering wheel or front end shifter vibrates like crazy. i think drive shaft might be off balanced but trying to get more ideas.

Re: drivetrain vibration

Drive shaft is not out of ballance, it is bending at that speed. You need a stronger drive shaft. Going up 1/2 inch in diameter usually is enough to fix it, but increasing the wall thickness is also a good idea. Also going to aluminum will help because a lighter shaft will have less bending force on it at higher speeds.

Will a 4th gen aluminum drive shaft fix it?

Re: drivetrain vibration

It should if it's balanced properly still. The aluminum shafts are much lighter than our factory steel and the LS1 type can have a dampening collar built in on the transmission yoke.

This is also a good place to note LS1 Aluminum driveshafts are notorious for breaking in stock M6 cars. Just something to keep in mind.

Yes. The 4th gen factory v8 driveshafts should be a direct fit with an OEM Transmission.
